We Used AI to Predict
“Wild Area Sendai”!!
Will the venue be Nishi Park? Will attendance top 400,000? Using real data from Fukuoka 2024 and Nagasaki 2025, we predicted what the Sendai event will look like. All our reasoning is laid out below.
Let’s start with the conclusion. Based on data from Fukuoka 2024 and Nagasaki 2025, our prediction is that Sendai will most likely use a single-venue format centered on “Nishi Park (Aoba Ward),” with attendance around 400,000. Of course, this is a prediction, not an official announcement. All the reasoning is laid out below.
“Pokémon GO Wild Area” is a real-world event series that began with the Fukuoka event in November 2024. In Nagasaki in November 2025, the format shifted to a new “citywide” style that turned the whole town into the venue. For the Sendai event in November 2026, the venue has not yet been announced (as of August 2026), but the two previous events reveal a lot.

01What Is Wild Area?
“Wild Area” is a real-world event series run by Scopely (formerly Niantic), the company behind Pokémon GO. It launched as a new framework separate from “GO Fest,” the previously dominant format that turned one large park into the entire venue, with its first event held in Fukuoka in November 2024.
For the Nagasaki event in November 2025, organizers adopted a new “citywide” format instead of a single park. In other words, Wild Area has only been held twice so far, and the venue format was different both times. That’s the biggest reason it’s hard to predict what the upcoming Sendai event will look like.

03Fukuoka 2024 In-Depth
The historic first Wild Area event. It was held as a single-venue event at Maizuru Park (Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City) over two days, Saturday November 16 and Sunday November 17, 2024.
Venue Format: Morning/Afternoon Shift System
Tickets were split into a “morning session” and an “afternoon session,” and buyers had to choose one at purchase. Staggering entry times like this appears to have been aimed at spreading out congestion.

04Nagasaki 2025 In-Depth
Held in Nagasaki City over three days, Friday November 7 through Sunday November 9, 2025. Unlike Fukuoka, it used a “citywide” format instead of a single park — the first time Wild Area had tried this approach.

Access: Park and Ride
To ease traffic congestion downtown, organizers set up three parking lots on the outskirts and used a “park and ride” system, where visitors would then take public transit into the city.

Parking fees topped out at 620 yen for the event period. Because Nagasaki’s city center sits on hilly terrain, covering every venue on foot alone was difficult, and using the streetcar or bus was assumed to be part of the plan.

Network Congestion and the Organizers’ Quick Response
Unlike a single venue, having the entire city serve as the venue made it hard to precisely predict where crowds would gather in advance. In practice, there were times when large numbers of people concentrated in one spot for short periods, and network connectivity reportedly became unstable in some areas.

As of August 2026, the venue for the Sendai event hasn’t been announced. Still, there are a few clues to go on.
- GO Fest Sendai 2024 was a single venue at Shichikita Park (Izumi Ward) with 379,000 attendees
- The July 2026 Community Celebration was also a single venue, at Nishi Park (Aoba Ward)
- Sendai’s highlights — Aoba Castle, the Hirose River, Kokubuncho, Gyutan Street — are spread across the city
- Nagasaki’s “hilly terrain” was one factor pushing it toward the citywide format. The area around Mt. Aoba in Sendai is hilly too

Wherever the Venue Is, Expect to Cover a Lot of Ground
Neither our top pick, Nishi Park, nor the runner-up, Shichikita Park, is an event that stays contained within the park itself. Even at GO Fest Sendai 2024, attendees spread out and walked well beyond the park. Once the venue is announced, it’s safest to assume the real “play area” — including the surrounding downtown and station areas — will be quite large. Early November in Sendai also tends to run colder than Fukuoka or Nagasaki, so you should prepare on the assumption you’ll be walking long distances.
A wider play area also means walking longer while carrying your belongings. Attendee reports from both Fukuoka and Nagasaki mentioned how tough long stretches of walking and standing were. How light you can travel makes a big difference to your comfort on the day.
