Let’s start with the bottom line. “Pokémon GO Wild Area 2026: Sendai” runs November 6 (Fri) to 8 (Sun), 2026, in Sendai City. The best move is to drop your bags somewhere you can reserve online in advance and move around light. Judging by how things went at the previous event at Nishi Park, coin lockers near the venue are not a realistic option.

01Event overview
On July 16, 2026, Scopely (formerly Niantic), which runs Pokémon GO, announced the location for its real-world event “Wild Area 2026.” In Japan, it’s Sendai. Overseas, the event runs simultaneously in Mexico City. Sendai is the only place in Japan hosting an event of this scale.
At “Pokémon GO Fest 2024,” held in Sendai in 2024, 379,000 people attended over four days, more than 90% of them from outside the city. Sendai City estimates the economic impact at roughly ¥7.4 billion. This year’s Wild Area event is expected to draw a similarly large crowd, or possibly more.

Sendai was already one of the largest events in the country as of 2024 (379,000 attendees, ¥7.4 billion). If this year’s Wild Area event surpasses that, it could become the biggest economic boost Miyagi has ever seen from an event like this.
02Dates & venue
Dates: Friday, November 6 – Sunday, November 8, 2026 (3 days)
Ticket sales: officially described only as “starting in the next season” (as of August 2026). Some strategy sites report a likely date of around 10:00 on Tuesday, September 8 — the start of the next season — but there has been no specific sale date or time announced officially. Prices and ticket types are also expected to be released gradually over the coming season.
Venue details have not yet been officially announced (as of August 2026). For reference, here’s where past large-scale real-world events in Sendai have been held.

Both were just minutes from Sendai Station by subway. There’s a good chance this year’s Wild Area venue will also be easy to reach from the city center, but that remains a guess until it’s officially announced. Always check the official website for the latest information.
Around the same time, on November 14–15, “Wild Area: Global” will also be held online for trainers who can’t make it in person.
03Access
By Shinkansen
From Tokyo Station, the Tohoku Shinkansen “Hayabusa” takes as little as about 1 hour 30 minutes. Sendai Station is the hub for city transport — the Namboku and Tozai subway lines and city buses all depart from there. If the venue ends up near Sendai Station, the Shinkansen is the lightest way to travel.
By air
From Sendai Airport, the JR Sendai Airport Access Line reaches Sendai Station in about 25 minutes with no transfers. This is the fastest option for people coming from western Japan, Kyushu, Hokkaido, and other distant regions.
By highway bus
A good option if you’re watching your budget. Buses arrive and depart around Sendai Station. The trip takes roughly 5–6 hours, so build in some slack in your schedule.

Kitayobancho sits between Izumi Ward (the area with a track record for Pokémon events) and the heart of Sendai’s entertainment district. If you’re getting around mainly by subway, it’s a convenient spot to leave your bags too.
04Baggage storage — enjoy the event hands-free
This is the main point we want to make. Carrying bags around makes a walking-heavy event genuinely rough. Wild Area is the kind of event where you walk the venue searching for Pokémon, so participants end up covering a lot of ground over a long day. The farther you’ve traveled — especially from outside the prefecture or from abroad — the bigger your luggage tends to be, and dragging a suitcase the whole time is no fun.
During the previous event, trainers actually came into our shop looking for somewhere to leave their bags. Some had a bowl of ramen and headed back to the venue lighter. We don’t see baggage storage as some special service — it’s just a natural thing for a local shop to offer.

What is ecbo cloak?
A Japan-based service that lets you reserve and pay from your phone, then drop bags off at a participating local shop. It’s run by ecbo, Inc. (founded 2015), and is also being rolled out at JR West station counters and 7-Eleven stores. Accepting bags 6:00 AM–9:00 PM (subject to same-day availability).

Founded in San Francisco in 2019. A baggage-storage service operating in over 32,000 locations across 4,000+ cities worldwide, with a growing partnership with Yamato Transport in Japan. Just enter a location, date, and number of bags in the app to book and pay.
Book with BounceBoth work in almost the same way — advance booking, cashless payment, and free cancellation are common to each. If you’re already comfortable with one app, just go with that.
05vs. coin lockers
Sendai Station does have coin lockers. But there aren’t many of them, and on days when event attendees overlap with regular commuters, the large lockers fill up by mid-morning. During the last event, we repeatedly saw trainers wandering around the station searching for an open locker.

Rather than “heading to the station and hoping for a locker,” it’s far more reliable to reserve a spot ahead of time.

Rain and cold-weather prep
Sendai in November can bring rain or light snow. A rain jacket beats a folding umbrella, since you can still use your phone while wearing one. Daytime temperatures hover around 10°C (50°F), often dropping to single digits Celsius in the morning and evening, so layers you can easily add or remove are a good baseline.
Nice to have
Drop off big items and suitcases before you get to the venue. That one step makes a real difference to how easy the day is on your feet.
07Choosing a hotel
The short version: hotels in Sendai City are essentially booked out already. Early November overlaps with peak autumn foliage season in Sendai and Miyagi, when demand is already high in a normal year — and now the Wild Area event is stacked on top of that.
Even hotels a bit further away — in Furukawa (Osaki City, about 10 minutes from Sendai by Shinkansen) or in Yamagata — are seeing their vacancies dry up too. If you’re only starting to look now, it’s worth expanding your search beyond Sendai proper and moving quickly.

How to search for a hotel
Even if everything near Sendai Station is full, don’t give up yet. Rooms around Sendai Station are likely to go first during the Wild Area event, so it helps to widen your search beyond “hotels near the venue” to “hotels you can reach Sendai from.”
If you can’t even secure one night, consider splitting your stay across two different hotels — book whatever you can get first, then re-book to somewhere more convenient if a better room opens up later.

Budget alternatives if you can’t get a hotel in Sendai
If searching for a Wild Area hotel keeps turning up nothing, you don’t have to insist on a room inside Sendai City itself.

Whether you go with a net cafe or car camping, how light you can travel makes a big difference to your comfort. If you can’t lock in a room, it’s safer to secure baggage storage in advance than to gamble on finding an open coin locker.
Major car-camping spots in and around Sendai
Convenience store and shopping center parking lots are meant for short breaks — long-term parking for the purpose of sleeping overnight may be discouraged or banned depending on the facility. If you’re planning to camp in your car, it’s safer to choose a facility designed for exactly that from the start.

Michi-no-Eki (roadside stations) are meant as rest stops, not designed for overnight stays or camping. Please be considerate of other visitors — avoid idling engines or loud conversation, and always take your trash with you. Check each facility’s official website for current hours and rules.
08Food near the venue
When your feet get tired, it’s worth stopping to sit down for something warm. Sendai is known for beef tongue (gyutan), seri-nabe (parsley hot pot), and zunda mochi (sweet edamame mochi), among other local specialties.
Gyutan Dori (Beef Tongue Street, near Sendai Station) and the restaurant district around Kokubuncho are both easy to reach from the venue. Popular spots can have long lines, so going outside peak hours or using a queue-management app can save you some waiting.
If you’re staying a few days, it’s worth trying each local specialty at least once.
Sendai’s hidden gems, recommended by our Tokyo-born owner
This next part is entirely personal opinion. Our owner, originally from Tokyo, has lived and run this shop in Sendai’s Kitayobancho for 20 years — here are some local favorites that don’t usually make it into guidebooks.

① Nomidokoro Kuidokoro Yumeya (飲み処・喰い処 ゆめや)
Basement floor of the Aizawa Building, 2-6-13 Kokubuncho, Aoba Ward. A hideaway izakaya famous for its skewer-grilled aged beef tongue — a spot known mostly to locals. Our picks: the grilled tongue skewers and the beef tongue curry.
② Soba no Kanda (そばの神田)
A casual soba shop with both standing counters and table seating. Several locations around Sendai City, and easy to drop into from the morning.
③ Meshi no Handaya (めしの半田や)
Founded in 1954, a Sendai-born diner known for hearty set meals — perfect for a day when you want to eat big. Our pick here is simple: the curry rice.
④ Marusho (丸昌)
A long-running motsuyaki (grilled offal) specialist at 1-8-2 Chuo, Aoba Ward, near Sendai Station, where you can even drink at lunchtime. Our pick: the raw beef stomach (gatsu-sashi).
⑤ Manjusan (萬寿山)
A long-established Chinese restaurant in the Kokubuncho area, known for thick, Shanghai-style flat noodles. Our pick: the Shanghai-style yakisoba.
⑥ 自家製麺キリンジ (Jikaseimen Kirinji)
Our own pick is the “Kasu Ramen,” topped with aburakasu (crispy pork fat). In the Kitayobancho / Futsukamachi area — a bowl you can enjoy right after dropping off your bags.
09Sightseeing after the event
You can’t spend all three days on your feet without a break. There are a few sightseeing spots within easy reach that double as a chance to rest.

Nest spawns rotate roughly every two weeks, so anything we list here as fixed content is likely to be outdated by the time the event happens. For a live view of Gyms, PokéStops, nests, and EX Raid–eligible Gyms, the community map site “Minpoke (みんポケ)” is the most reliable way to search the Sendai area.

That’s fine. That said, net cafe private booths are hard to fit large luggage into, and for security reasons it’s best not to leave bags unattended in a car overnight. Whichever you choose, storing large items like suitcases in advance lets you move around more freely.
Summary
The venue details are still to come, but the dates, expected crowd size, and the reality of the coin-locker situation can already be read fairly well from how the last event went. Rather than figuring out your bags on the day, it’s better to decide where to leave them in advance.
